Accurate measurements are essential for ensuring your custom challenge coins meet your expectations. Depending on the design, the method of measurement can vary.

Measuring Circular Coins

For circular coins, the process is straightforward. The size is determined by the diameter—the longest distance across the coin. This clear measurement gives you a consistent reference point for production.

Measuring Custom-Shaped Coins

When working with irregular or custom shapes, determining the overall size requires identifying the two farthest points in the design. This measurement, representing the longest span across the coin, is key to capturing its true dimensions.

Using a Circular Template

One effective method for measuring custom-shaped coins is to use a circular template or drawing tool:

  • Place the Coin in the Center: Position your coin or design in the middle of the circular guide.
  • Identify Extreme Points: Observe which parts of the coin extend closest to the edge of the circle.
  • Visualize the Measurement: The imaginary line drawn between these two extreme points represents the coin’s maximum dimension.

Why Accurate Measurement Matters

Including all aspects of your design in the measurement is crucial. Protrusions and irregular edges can significantly influence the overall size and appearance of the coin. By carefully considering these factors, you avoid misconceptions about the coin’s dimensions and ensure that your final product perfectly reflects your design intentions.

Accurately measuring your challenge coin ensures that you get the design and quality you expect. Enamel Fill Colors for Your Coins

The classic challenge coin style exudes a formal look, ideal for any occasion or event. To make your design even more memorable—especially for corporate coins—consider adding vibrant color. With our enamel fill process, you can incorporate up to five colors at no extra charge.

After your design is die-struck into the metal, we add color enamel by filling in the recessed areas with enamel paint. The enamel is then cured at high heat, resulting in a durable and visually striking design.

Since colors can vary across computer screens and mobile devices, we rely on the Pantone® Color Chart as our standard for color accuracy. To ensure an exact color match, we recommend checking a physical Pantone (PMS) chart at your local print shop or public library. For a convenient alternative, you can also view our virtual Pantone® color chart for a close approximation on your screen.
