When measuring custom-shaped challenge coins, whether an existing design or a new one, accuracy is key for customer satisfaction. Follow these steps to measure your challenge coins correctly:

  1. Identify the Longest Span:
    • For both custom-shaped and circular coins, size is determined by the longest distance across the coin. This is the diameter for circular coins. For irregular shapes, find the longest span.
  2. Using a Circular Guide for Custom Shapes:
    • Place your custom-shaped coin or its design on a circular template or object (like a circle drawing tool). Center the coin for precise measurement.
    • Identify the two points on the coin that extend closest to the edge of the circle and draw a line connecting them. This line represents the coin's size.
  3. Precise Measurement with Ruler or Caliper:
    • Use a transparent ruler or caliper for accuracy. The transparency helps in viewing the coin while measuring.
    • Align the ruler or caliper with the two farthest points of the coin, ensuring it crosses the center for circular coins.
  4. Consider Shape and Design:
    • Take into account any protrusions or irregular edges. These should be included in your measurement as they affect the overall size.
    • Understand that some shapes might appear smaller than their actual size. Accurate measurement is crucial to avoid misconceptions.

Pantone© Color Chart

The classic challenge coin style creates a formal look, suitable for any occasion or event. If you want to make your design even more memorable, especially for corporate coins, add color. We offer up to five colors at no extra charge.

We add color enamel to your design after the design is die struck into the metal. We fill in the recesses with enamel paint and cure the enamel at high heat. The end result is an attractive, durable design with dramatic visual appeal.

Because computer screens and mobile devices vary in how they display colors, we rely on PantoneĀ® colors as our color guide. Be aware that the only way to ensure an EXACT color match by checking an actual physical copy of a Pantone (PMS) color chart at your print shop or public library. You can also check out our virtual Pantone© color chart for a close approximation on your screen.
